MY NEW LOVE...

QUILTING!
I have started a new hobby that I just love!
It may seem a little old lady-ish, but I'm here
to tell ya, quilting ain't for wimps.
For graduation, I wanted to do something for
Ken that he could always have and remember.
So my ULTRA creative and talented mother suggested
I make him a quilt. I kind of chuckled at the idea
but decided to give it a go. After one week
of seriously putting in 8 hour days, I thought I had
had enough. I understand now why they are so
expensive. The cost of fabric+labor=lotsa mulah.
I swore them off after Kennys, but I decided
to give it another go for my sister-in-law whose having
a baby girl. And the love affair ignited...
This one was smaller and easier since I already knew the
ropes.(kinda)

These are a few Tates Grammie Nelson
made for him. She wanted him to have one
for everyday of the week. (extremely talented, but
borderline crazy...)

I love this cowboy one...

That's awesome Linds. My mom would be proud, she keeps hoping one of us Smith girls will take up her love for quilting, but we haven't yet. We just enjoy all the fun stuff she quilts for us and our kids.

So we should join forces and quilt together. My family decided we would make each others christmas gifts this year so I decided on a whim to make Sam a quilt. How hard could it really be?...Well,it turns out it ain't easy! I have no idea what I am doing. I bought a $60 "quilt kit" and then found out that it does not contain a "whole quilt". I had already chopped up a bunch of the fabric so I had to just go and buy the rest so Sam is getting one expensive Christmas present. I also have had to call on my mother-in-law for help ( and she has been at my house everyday for a week helping me) I am hoping to have it done so I can get it quilted before Christmas ( I am not quilting it by hand! ) So, I hope mine turns out as good as your did. I think your ambitious for doing more than 1. Good Luck on your next one!

They look so good! I love the BYU one. Brad keeps telling me he wants a Dallas Cowboys quilt with a huge star in the middle. Um...a star? Anyway, you need to stop by Pine Needles in Gardner Village...super cute quilting fabrics.

So how much...seriously? I would love to give one to myself for Christmas (from Brad of course). Do you do that? Do you sell your amazing services? I realize I will be paying for materials plus labor and maybe a mark-up but seriously I LOVE THOSE BLANKETS! Let me know...I am not even kidding :)
